This latest Riverside Chapel Gig was even more special then the previous ones.

The chapel was up-lit at each column to magnify the ambiance of the chapel for the television audience, but other wise was set up quite in the same manner as last time.

Matmos and Zeena took a stage and then the choir (one girl looking extra special with her new blond locks! . . .stick it to the man . . . destroy stereotypes!)

Bjork took stage wearing a sparkling Peacock outfit, which made her look like a woman about ready to jump on to a trapeze! They began with 'Unravel' and Bjork walked the aisles of the church and sang to us. The crowd was definitely moved by the proximity of Bjork to them . . . it was, as was intended, most engaging. A perfect opener.

After that Bjork was seated, her special shoes were put on, and her new smaller music box placed on her lap (talk about a lap top). The song was similar but not the same as 'Frosti.' I didn't recognize it, but it could have just been in another key or something, it sounded very little like the album version. As it played Martin walked to his try of rock salt and began to walk in it to begin 'Aurora.'

The beats resonated in the walls and floors, the electronics were mixed louder then at the past show much to my delight. Matmos adaptations of these familiar beats (especially on some of the older songs) were great to hear and added audio surprises to these songs that I wasn't expecting! For example, there was some great distorted sounds in 'Possibly Maybe's' opening sequence done by Drew, and a nifty slide guitar done by Martin. Matmos also graced us with an entertaining sensual head massage. With great care, Martin massaged Drew's head with during 'Cocoon.' A loving act that added, via a contact mic, rustling sounds to the song! PURE GENIUS!

Zeena once again proved her talents, to see a woman play both an accordion and a harp at once is indeed a special event! A truly world class musician. bravo!

The choir although needing mics . . . sounded great. They are really picking up the tunes and seemed to be enjoying themselves!

Bjork's voice delighted everyone and filled the chapel. She I remember some beautiful abstract improvisation during Undo. Maybe this was Bjork tricking us into not noticing the equipment failure, that affected that song the first time they performed it. Needless to say . . . it sounded great . . . what ever it was. Thankfully this performance will reach so many more people then were present last night. Bjork enjoyment seemed obvious. Her playful side was often apparent. She is a true charmer!

'It's In Our Hands' was a great surprise. Full of energy, clapping, and frantic beats and clicks . .all of which was punctuated by Bjork's joyously violent altar jig! A true site to behold in a house of worship.

Despite the quality of the performance, the audience was quite reserved . . . most likely due to the combined pressure of being in a chapel and having a television cameras present. It's was clear that they politely delayed applause as to not obscure songs conclusions. But it was obvious in their
faces and in their comments after the show, that this show met and i most cases exceeded their expectations.

If they have it this together now, I can't wait until they come back to NYC in October. It will be outrageous!

Subject: Riverside Chapel experience

I had to take the day off to completely soak this show in. What can I say it was magical. She was a foot away from me! I wish I could relive it over and over. Her dress/costume was exquisite, the way the beads sparkled and reflected on the floor. unforgettable. It seemed that she really loved it too, she kept looking down at it, primping the ruffles while sticking her tongue out with that super cute smile. Every song sounded great, matmos are truly amazing geniuses, Ms. Perkins is an incredible musician, the choir was so ethereal. I thank God for this night and pray that I might be as generous and kind as Bjork.
From jdvjess on the messageboard:

The show was truly incredible...made me believe in love again. I thought I would never get over the disappointment of not being let into the first shows in May(after waiting over 4 hours in the standby line). I got 1 ticket for the show this time and actually gave it to my friend as a gift. Believe it or not, I got IN THIS TIME!!! I think it just goes to show that in giving sometimes you receive a lot more. I really loved the song she performed, It's all in your hands, it was wildly optimistic and left me feeling full of life and love. I still can't get over it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From sydeburn on the messageboard:

AMAZING!!!! I know I'm not the biggest fan that posts on this board, but I WAS lucky enough to get in to the secret NYC show tonight!

I know you guys want the info on the show, so here it is:

The show was at Riverside Church, in the same small side chapel used for the May 22nd show.

Tickets were $50.

They were filming for an HBO series called "Reverb" which airs on Wednesday nights at 10:00. A guy who was there filming for HBO told me they don't know when the Bjork special will air, but there is usually a month of lag time. I.E. it will be on about a month from now.

About 9 people in the standby line got in, NOT including Horatio Sanz and Mia Rudolph from Saturday Night Live - they must've just been cut off because I think they were about 12th in line. (Sorry for the very irrelevant info, but I just had to put that in here somewhere.)

Here's the setlist:

1. Unravel
2. Aurora
3. All Is Full Of Love
4. Undo
5. Palmstroke
6. Pagan Poetry
7. Possibly Maybe (a very Matmos influenced version)
8. Cocoon
9. Isobel
10. Hidden Place

11. The Anchor Song
12. Venus as a Boy
13. Its In Our Hands***

14. Undo
15. Unravel

After the 2nd encore they came back to re-do Undo and Unravel for the filming - we got to see Bjork walk down the isle TWICE!!! Because the room is so narrow, when she walks down the isle no one is more than 4 chairs away from her when she passes by.

"Its In Our Hands" is a completely new song that is more Matmos than previous songs, in my opinion. Very upbeat and full of energy. Bjork broke into a very Thom-York-ish dance on stage during this song, dropping her head and wailing her arms about.

Hmmm... what else... An older lady next to me had the formal set list. It had Frosti listed between Unravel and Aurora, and had the second encore listed as "Its Not Up To You".

love,
m

Subject: Bjork tonite @ Riverside Chapel - My Experience !!!!!! AHHHHH!!!!

Hello!

Oh my god. First I would like to say that tonight has been the best nite of my life. Incredible.

For those of you who don't already know, the show was tonite at Riverside Chapel, once again. It was a taping for Reverb on HBO. Supposedly the show will air sometime in November.

So I got to the chapel around 7pm, and there were about 20 people already in line. They let us in around 8pm or so. We walked into the chapel and got THIRD ROW seats. The chapel is soooo small!!!! The width of it is no wider than a street and I was about 10 feet from where Bjork performed. Many times, when she walked the aisles, I could have touched her!

She was wearing this cute little blue swan dress type of thing and these little tights. Very cute!

This was my first time seeing Bjork, and I have never experienced anything quite like this. There were two music boxes: on with the Aurora background (what's it called? avignon or something?) and then Frosti. About 15 minutes before the show, the cranked up the Aurora music box. Beautiful.

Bjork came on around 9:15. Here's the complete set list (I got one!!):

Unravel
Frosti
Aurora
All Is Full Of Love
Undo
Generous Palmstroke
Pagan Poetry
Possibly Maybe
Cocoon
Isobel
Hidden Place
--------------------------------
Anchor Song
Venus As A Boy
--------------------------------
Our Hands
-------------------------------
Undo (again)
-------------------------------
Unravel (again)

WOWOWOWOW!!! Where do I start? Okay. Bjork came out for UNRAVEL, creeping in, taking little footsteps. She started to come barefoot down the aisle, and started to sing halfway down the aisle. She went to the end, and then came back again. Then she finished the song and sat down on a little white chair and put on some white glass-looking shoes. Then someone helped her put the FROSTI music box on her lap, and she cranked up FROSTI and played it. Sounded like it needed a little tuning, but it was nice :) Then AURORA started! Beautiful!
ALL IS FULL OF LOVE was beautiful!
Then UNDO. Beautiful!
Then GENEROUS PALMSTROKE was done with just Bjork and Ms. Perkins on the harp.
Then PAGAN POETRY!
Next was POSSIBLY MAYBE! I really loved this version w/ new beats and everything!
Next was COCOON, sounded great! Matmos is seriously generous.
Next was ISOBEL, once again, new orchestration, new beats, beautiful!
Then came HIDDEN PLACE. The choir sounded great in this one. They sounded great throughout the whole show! Then everyone left the stage.

Bjork came back on with Ms. Perkins. Bjork performed ANCHOR SONG w/ Ms. Perkins on the harmonium! Next came VENUS AS A BOY, which as quite a suprise! Sounded great!!!! Next, Bjork left. We clapped for about 5 minutes, and then Bjork came back on w/ the choir, Matmos, and Ms. Perkins! Bjork announced
that this would be the last song and that it was UNRELEASED! So I was really excited. The choir girls started to clap...like you know those little clap games girls do when they are really little. It looked really cool, and throughout the song, both bjork, matmos, ms perkins, the choir, and the audience clapped! The song ended up being, of course, OUR HANDS. Which is not technically released....but whatever.

Then a cute, quiet and timid Bjork came back on stage and said that something had gone wrong during one of the songs w/ the laptops and they were going to try it again! This ended up being UNDO and it was sooo awesome yet again! I don't remember anything going wrong the 1st time, but whatever!

Then she left again, and came back on. She talked to the audience and said something about it being filmed, as we know, and that they would have to do one more song over. This ended up being UNRAVEL, the first song. And it was great once again! She made her rounds, down the aisle, and everything.
Beautiful!! And that was the end!!

Wow it was so awesome!! The choir was excellent, Bjork was BRILLIANT as usual, Matmos rocked! geniuses! and Ms. Perkins can definitely play the harp, harmonium, and accordian!! wowooww!!! she was awesome!

After the show, I got a setlist! yippee! It says she was thinking about doing It's Not Up To You at the very end...but right by it, it says: "???..maybe"....she didn't do it.

Then I talked for a while with Ms. Perkins, she is so kind and so awesome. She said Bjork just emailed her and told her she was looking for a harpist!! Isn't that awesome? She says she loves Bjork.

Then we were supposed to leave, but we snuck into a different room and we said hello the choir girls from Greenland and told them what a good job they did. They were very nice. Then all of a sudden BJORK ENTERED THE ROOM!! I went over towards her and then some guy told us to stay back (there were like 4 of us). Then we said her name and tried to get her attention. She looked at us and acted like were were bothering her haha. Which we probably were. Then this man said we had to leave, but we begged and finally he said he'd ask bjork if she'd greet us. He went over to her, and she said yes, and he told us to wait outside by the stairs at the front of the church.

We were all 4 of us soooo excited! The other 2 people were were with were two lovely girls who actually didn't have tickets, but the Bjork people felt so sorry for them because they stayed there all day today and all day yesterday. So they let them see the concert even though they didn't have tickets. wonderful girls! Anyway....

We waited by the stairs, and then we say Ms. Perkins and Bjork starting to leave! She looked so cute! But then Bjork saw us (she was on her cell phone)...and when she saw us, she went back inside with Ms. Perkins. Ms. Perkins waited on a bench while Bjork talked on the phone. Then Ms. Perkins left and Bjork disappeared. We waited a while and then all of a sudden we see Bjork behind us, running from another exit. And she shouted "good night! thank you!" or something and got into the car with Ms. Perkins that was
waiting for her.

Grrrr.... :( hehe then some nice soul gave me a Bjork "after show" pass! It's very pretty!

So I have had the best day of my life !!!!! The show and the experience was indescribable! wow

I will rest easy tonite! I can't wait to see it when it airs on HBO!

Good nite! I'm still in shock!
