| Premessa: 1993 esce Debut, io ho 16 anni e mi compro il primo album da "solista" di Bjork. 10 Novembre 2001, ho tutti i suoi album, qualche centinaio di remix e live inediti e un bel po' di video scaricati da internet. Ho 24 anni e la vedo per la prima volta in concerto a Roma... a 550Km da casa :-). Che dire ... probabilmete il concerto piu' artistico che abbia mai visto. Lei, una orchestra norvegese, un coro di ragazze dalla Groenlandia, i sintetizzatori e i campionatori controllati dai Matmos. Un stupendo concerto che mi ha fatto tornare in mente tanti ricordi e che mi ha confermato le qualita' artistiche di Bjork. Lei canta divinamente bene, ha una voce stupenda, l'atmosfera era bellissima, qualita' generale molto elevata. Devo ancora capire se era un sogno o no :o))) Ha fatto alcuni pezzi del cd nuovo e parecchi dei cd vecchi ... alcuni rivisti. Il pubblico e' stato sempre presente ... e dopo un inizio abbastanza malinconico si e' trasformata e si e' "scatenata" ... allegra e frizzante coma un "folletto"... :o)))) Ero in platea, in terza fila ... quindi a circa 6/7 metri da lei (2 file + fossa dell'orchestra). Ma Bjork ... perche' non hai fatto Play Dead?? :-((( Devis After months of gossip-chasing-ticket-hunting all around the web, a few weeks ago I finally got 2 tickets for Bjork's concert in Rome... This is actually my third attempt to write something about the gig... I guess it may sound like a cliché, but I'm still speechless after the concert =) ... As Bjork steps on stage on Frosti's notes the whole theatre explodes in a huge, endless ovation... tonight's the night... finally! Right after that, the Orchestra starts to play Dancer in the dark's ouverture, Björk is still sitting in the twilight on a little white chair right in the middle of the stage... it's somehow like waiting for the sun to rise and shine... Matmos, Zeena Parkins and the choir walk on stage too and take their positions, everything's ready to start and an incredibly beautiful version of All is full of love fills the air... I still can't quite believe I'm not dreaming... I realize it IS definitely real when I start to cry tears of joy as the Orchestra introduces Harm of will... I guess it was the only way to express what I was feeling.. I've been waiting for that moment nine years, since I saw a sugarcubes video on the tv one day... =) The concert goes on... it seems like everybody can feel Björk's joy of performing tonight... she sings, dances and shouts, we're all in a kind of rapture, and thunderous applauses start right in the middle of the songs sometimes. The first part of the concert is very orchestral, intimate... but it just seems to end way too quickly! I'm just staring at her breathless, with a huge smile on my face and shivers all over... The 40 minutes of the first half seemed like the wink of an eye... the eyes of a thousand lovers tonight. After a short break the lights go down again and Björk walks on stage, "announced" by the tinkle of her red dress... The second part of the concert is more electronic yet awesome... all around the theatre there's people dancing... a couple of older songs, Isobel, Venus as a boy, Hyperballad... and the most violent version of Army of me ever, with people dancing all around and Matmos headbanging in the middle of their electronic kingdom... it's just so surreal, surprising, exciting... it's "just" Björk after all! Björk keeps on dancing and rushing all around, saying just "grazie-grazie-grazie" (thank you-thank you-thank you) after the songs... It's a joy to see her having fun on stage, smiling at the musicians... the choir girls seems to be having a lot of fun, Zeena is incredibly talented and inspired, and Matmos (their set before the concert was the strangest yet most suprising electronic set I've ever seen...) are just in perfect simbiosys with Bjork and the Orchestra. The concert ends after 2 encores, in which Björk plays two new songs (who is it + it's in our hands) I could say a million things more about this concert, but it's way too much to be expressed by words only... my tears on Harm of will told me everything I've ever wanted to know or prove about Björk and her music... I just wanted to share some of my feelings with the people who'll get to read this page... and in case Björk gets to read it too... I'd just like to tell you thank you. thank you, through the warmthest cord of care ;) I hope this is just a goodbye, and I'm looking forward to see you playing live again... Tonight (tonight?! am I still there?) has been one of the most beautiful nights in my life, and definitely defninitely definitely the most beautiful concert I've ever seen. Thanks again... that's it =) Piermario Roma 10 novembre 2001 : una giornata che non dimenticherò mai ( e come potrei !!!). Volevo soltanto ringraziare di cuore la mia adorata Bjork per avermi portato per mano a visitare il paradiso. Con la sua magia di suoni ed immagini , con la sua voce unica e dalla devastante bellezza, con la sua infinita e selvaggia dolcezza mi ha riempito il cuore e l’ anima di una gioia e felicità immense. E’ stata un’ esperienza emotivamente fantastica, l’emozioni vibravano nell’ aria e come scosse elettriche attraversavano tutto il Teatro dell’ Opera. Tutto è stato sconvolgentemente bello: l’ orchestra, Zeena, i Matmos, il coro…e lei… ghiaccio che sprigiona calore, musica che punta diritto ai sentimenti e sublima…poesia…pura e semplice Arte. Ora sono tornato sulla Terra o meglio a Napoli; il sogno di stare a meno di 5 metri da Bjork (…Elena erano soltanto 5 !!!) si è avverato.Spero soltanto e con tutto il cuore che questo sogno si ripeta ancora, e ancora, e ancora…( il teatro San Carlo di Napoli , per esempio ? :-) ). GRAZIE, GRAZIE ancora Bjork, che tutta la felicità che mi hai donato, che mi doni, che mi donerai ritorni a te centuplicata. Ciao Principessa dei Ghiacci Emiliano L'interno del teatro è rosso, velluto e stucchi dorati. Le voci di intesa e attesa non cambieranno nei secoli, e tutti, entrando, guarderanno con stupore l'affresco che sovrasta e scruteranno chiunque arrivando, raggiungerà timidamente o con baldanza arrogante il posto assegnato o scelto con precisione maniacale. Guarderanno il palco che ancora vuoto, scarno e minimalista, uno schermo bianco su un fondo nero, contrasta in senso imbarazzante con il fasto del teatro. Ma non importa. Sicuramente il tempo ha trovato spazio qui dentro e le sensazioni rivivranno come allora, immobili e tese nel silenzio, libere di esplodere e vibrare nell'istante di un accordo giusto. Lassù, oltre i posti dell'orchestra ancora vuoti, sembra incredibile pensarlo, anche Mozart, Rossini passarono incauti e lanciarono le loro note nell'aria, ma stasera no, non stanotte. Ecco, invece, gli orchestrali. Entrano disordinatamente, scherzano, si guardano negli occhi. Sono ragazzi, come me, come la maggior parte quaggiù.Scrutano anche loro il teatro , con attenzione, come se fosse un debutto. Bisbigli e silenzio assoluto. Nel buio, scendono piume bianche dal cielo, illuminate da uno spot, come neve leggera e gentile, al suono di un carillon, frosti, ghiaccio che lentamente si scioglie, ed è fuoco adesso, verspertine, l'ha chiamato, per ricordare l'ora dei vespri e del crepuscolo che sembra uscire da quella terra d'Islanda in cui la luce è preziosa. Ed ecco che lo sfondo bianco che rappresenta tutto questo freddo e luce e archi si fa avanti e lei appare. Sembra una bambina, e si muove spontanea e maliziosa con grazia e leggerezza quasi che fosse una ballerinetta della Scala, appena un po' più tonda e rock. E ci sorride. Gli archetti si muovono e si innalzano anche loro, leggeri. All is full of love ed echi lunghi ,Pagan Poetry, l'infinita tristezza di Possibly Maybe e arpe e armoniche e. E quasi il teatro viene giù, per una voce bianca che incanta in quest'attimo e che non trova descrizione e spiegazione. Nella foga basta guardarsi intorno, i visi rapiti, le voci che accompagnano, le mani di chi suona e di chi batte, le onde degli archetti che danzano con la grazia più bella. Quasi un senso amaro ti pervade, ma non hai tempo ci penserai più tardi, e dimentichi per un attimo i codici, la città al di fuori, la pioggia che scendeva prima di entrare e le strade belle e luminose nel riflesso dell'acqua.Ancora una volta è successo, succederà. Eppure tutto questo sembra trovare senso non solo nella musica , ma nell'immagine e quasi ti sembra di riuscire a vedere, di scorgere per un attimo, questa famosa grandezza dell'animo, se in questa notte, per una notte sola, puoi sentire che effetto fa, quando il ghiaccio brucia. Folla di vip al teatro dell’Opera di Roma sabato sera per Bjork: in platea il sindaco Veltroni («È una delle mie artiste preferite, è unica, anche perchè viene da un luogo molto lontano, con altre temperature e altri cieli...»»), Piovani, Britti, la Dandini, Rosalinda Celentano, Taricone («Per mei lei è come l’arte moderna: non la capisco ma mi piace e allora uso l’istinto, la pancia. Per me è una cantante ed un’attrice senza pelle: le emozioni le escono dalle guance, dallo sguardo»). Concepito per teatri e sale da concerto (il debutto ad agosto nella gotica Sainte Chapelle di Parigi), lo spettacolo del piccolo elfo islandese ha mostrato la sua parte più accademica. Insieme a lei sul palco, 54 elementi della Novecento Orchestra, l'arpista Zeena Parkins, un coro di 16 ragazze della Groenlandia e il duo elettronico dei Matmo. Cresciuta sulla scena punk e dance londinese, Bjork in questo spettacolo ha offerto il suo lato più femminile, malinconico ma mai triste, una grande energia vitale e una ricerca di sperimentazione e improvvisazione. Artista colta e stravagante, romantica e punk, Bjork è entrata in scena scalza, in un abito bianco con gonnellina di piume e corpetto di pajlettes, sullo sfondo di un megaschermo che proiettava paesaggi di ghiaccio immacolato, come per ricordare le sue origini. Nella musica di Bjork, che non ha cittadinanza, c'è una mescolanza di pop, rock, opera, punk estremo, elettronica, che l'artista ha proposto anche a Roma con una voce la cui purezza e intensità ricordano i contrasti della sua isola. Nella seconda parte del concerto, la raffinata pop singer ha proposto brani come Isobel, Venus allf a boys, Hyperballad e Bachelorette. La star islandese, famosa per i suoi videoclip, vere e proprie opere d'arte, ha alternato sussurri e grida, si è dimenata, ha danzato con la goffaggine di una bambina, portando in scena la sua interiorità, colorata e contraddittoria, che ha affascinato il pubblico, caloroso ed entusiasta. Due i bis: Human the Haviour e It's in hour hands. In platea, c'erano anche il sindaco di Roma Walter Veltroni, il compositore Nicola Piovani e il cantautore Alex Britti. r. sp. Bye at all the World from #bjork.it - the bjork's fan italian irc channel Dark|magE Ero partito con l'intento di descrivere dettagliatamente l'esperienza del concerto di ieri sera....ma ancora non sono nelle condizioni adatte per farlo :))) non riesco a credere di aver potuto ascoltare e vedere Björk dal vivo (per la mia prima volta)...penso sia impossibile scrivendolo, riuscire a dare anche una minima idea di come siano andate le cose...delle emozioni che Björk è riuscita a trasmettere. Mi ritrovo il giorno dopo (e credo non sia l' unico) a ricantare tra me e me le canzoni del concerto pensando a lei che sarà già in viaggio per regalare altri momenti meravigliosi ai pochi e fortunati possessori del biglietto. Sono rimasto molto contento dal calore del pubblico italiano, dal momento che qui in Italia non è mai stata tanto apprezzata.....come si dice, meglio pochi ma buoni. Non posso che sperare in un altro futuro concerto in Italia. Il momento più emozionante : l'inizio del concerto con Frostì...lei seduta su una sedia sotto una cascata di neve, il volto in penombra, mentre stringeva tra le braccia un carillon...meraviglioso!! Il momento più divertente: Björk in Human Behaviour, saltando da una parte e l'altra del palco, mentre rideva come una bambina e faceva verso noi del pubblico dei gesti buffi, quasi a volerci spaventare...il tutto naturalmente accompagnato dallo scampanellìo del suo vestito rosso. Grazie Björk...o forse è meglio dire "Crazie", come lei stessa ieri sera ha detto con una simpatica pronuncia italiana :). Simone. Bjork al Teatro dellOpera di Roma, 10 novembre 2001. Concerto (… concerto?! Esperienza!!!) indimenticabile. Tanti i VIPS presenti fin dalle 19: tra quelli riconosciuti da noi Walter Veltroni, Serena Dandini, Alex Britti (con fidanzata bellissima!!!), l'oscar Nicola Piovani, Rosalinda Celentano e nientepopodimenochè TARICONE!!!. Aprono alle 20:30 i Matmos (che accompagneranno poi anche Bjork): 3 quarti d'ora di immagini, mimo, musica, invenzioni incredibili. La gente li accoglie freddamente (esemplare l'intervento di Taricone: 'ma chi so sti 2 esauriti?'), salvo poi spellarsi le mani a fine esibizione. Avete mai visto suonare (a mo' di arpa) una gabbia X uccellini?! E rasoi elettrici? E compressori X palloncini? Il tutto trattato per mezzo di computer, sintetizzatori, sequencer ed ogni sorta di diavoleria elettronica possibile, per dare vita ad una musica non catalogabile, fra dance e ambient Con tutte le trovate di questi 2 pazzi, in 45 minuti, altri artisti ci avrebbero costruito un'intera carriera! Straordinario set pieno di ironia, fantasia e sperimentazione. Una vera sorpresa, non capìta, purtroppo, dai +. Arriva Bjork. Prima da sola, vestita da cigno (!!!) e suonando un carillon ('Frosti') in una ‘pioggia' di coriandoli. Poi subentra l'orchestra di 54 elementi + direttore, per riproporre, nel buio + totale, l'incipit del film 'Dancer in the dark' ('Ouverture'). Entrano i Matmos, Zeena Parkins (polistrumentista americana che suonerà arpa, concertina, celesta ed armonium), il coro di 14 coriste groenlandesi (qualcuno le ha ribattezzate 'le tipiche casalinghe esquimie') e finalmente Bjork canta!!! ('All is full of love'). Il primo tempo dura 1 ora, è lento, classicheggiante, suggestivo, e ripropone, di fronte ad uno schermo che proietta immagini dei ghiacci islanesi, per lo + i pezzi dell'ultimo album. Meravigliosa 'Generous palmstroke', con un grande numero di Zeena all'arpa. Bellissima anche 'Aurora', molto + che su disco. Si chiude con il commovente brano ke ha vinto a Cannes ('I've seen it all'). Seconda parte: + spazio al ritmo (quindi all'elettronica dei Matmos) e ai brani + famosi: Biorc ora è vestita da fiore rosso (qualcuno dice 'mitica, paren takkino'!) e salta e strepita e strilla come una pazza, trascinando il pubblico. Si chiude con una sequenza di brani incredibile: 'Isobel' (e qui il pubblico canta con lei il ritornello: na na na na naaa!), 'Possibly maybe' (versione stupenda), 'Venus as a boy' (molto gradita dal pubbico, che l'accoglie con un boato), 'Hyperballad' (mamma mia che emozione! Il momento più bello del concerto), 'Anchor song' (da sole Bjork e Zeena, che qui suona l'armonium, sorta di organo a soffietto azionato con i piedi) , 'Army of me' (violentissima e deflagrante) e 'Bachelorette' (intensa e drammatica, grazie all'orchestra). Due bis con Human behaviour' (indimenticato primo singolo, canzone difficilissima: come si fa a cantarla dopo + d 2 ore di live?) e 2 brani inediti (scelta bizzarra, come tutto, del resto!). Un appunto? A volerlo proprio cercare, la scelta di qualche brano al posto di qualche altro (perchè da Vespertine Harm of will e Frosti piuttosto che le bellissime Undo, Unison e Cocoon? Perché 2 canzoni non imperdibili quali Our hands e la nuova Who is it a discapito di Joga e Play dead? Si, ma quante canzoni stupende ci ha regalato questo piccolo, fragile, adorabile folletto!!! Potrei dilungarmi: sarebbe inutile. Bisognava esserci. Solo una cosa, che stavo quasi per dimenticare: Bjork ha una voce incredibile, da brivido. THANK YOU, BJORK! 'Il Tapiro' (www.fabriziobellanca@libero.it) As always, Bjork's performance has been absolutely great. the expectations were high and I was sure nobody would have been disappointed. Around 2 hours before the gig, a big crowd was already standing in front of the theater. I met Mr.B and Gennaro Sofft #11 from alt.music.bjork. at 19 ( to be honest few minutes later ) the doors were opened, and we could get inside this wonderful, perfect theater. Before the show, we could taste a nice "frostified" version of Aurora, that calmed down the heartbeats while we all were waiting impatiently...... at 20.30, perfectly in time, Matmos started with a 45 minutes set, including the balloons performance i had seen already at Le Grand Rex in Paris. At 21.15 Matmos were gone, and at 21.30 Bjork came in, we could see her shade in the dark, and while Frosti was playing, she was sitting on a chair, moving her music box , wearing her white swan dress, with no shoes .petals were falling from above. something not really nice happened then , cause around 20 photos were shot during that intimate moment, and i guess Bjork was pretty stunned by the flashlights.....(Typical Paparazzi Italian behaviour LOL). then, a sudden dark, and the orchestra became enlighted and started playing Ouverture.......Everybody was already shivering..... the choir came in, Matmos came in, Zeena came in, and a nice Melting ice background came up.The colour of the first part was Blue, pale blue... First song was All is full of love, Video Version , during which, i think she was still a bit nervous , maybe just because of all of those photos... then, one by one followed Unravel , harm of will, which was a really special moment,Aurora, INUTY,generous Palmstroke,Pagan Poetry(loud scream in the audience ),I've seen it all. i think she really was in Shape yesterday......from one minute to another she became warmer. even the choir from greenland was very very happy , and they were dancing more than last time that i had seen them.... best performances, in my opinion, were Harm of will, that's been simply Poetical, then It's not up to you, Generous Palmstroke, in which you could see the perfect synergy with Zeena Parkins , and I've seen it all, that was very nice cause she was alone with matmos on the stage, ad the colour of the performance was a "sand" yellow, that reminded me of the first part of "dancer in the dark". the first part lasted around 45 minutes, then, after a 20 minutes stand, she came in , walking in her "noisy" red dress. the colour of the stage changed into red, green and yellow, it was an explosion. she sang : you've been flirting again (icelandic) isobel Possibly maybe Venus as a boy Hyper-ballad Army of me Anchor song (half icelandic-half english) Bachelorette. All of these songs were sung in a wonderful way, and her touch with the WARM ITALIAN AUDIENCE was growing minute by minute...... ok she didn't speak a lot, but when she said "grazi" instead of "grazie" she was definitely cute.... Best moments, in my opinion, were Possibly maybe, Hyper ballad and Army of me, which was really Cool and Strong, with the bass totally changed.i was really wondering what was the major of Rome thinking of, in that moment....lol then, even the second part finished, everybody was crazy, screaming ,yelling, hitting feets on the ground, clapping hands; she came in, and started talking about this new song, Who is it, and she asked us if we wanted to hear it..... well....i probably need to listen to it once more....anyway that was pretty cool, with the greenlandic girls performing a strange dance in the beginning....the song was very sweet also... then, she played Human Behaviour, the audience was in delirium, and also SHE WAS TOTALLY EXCITED, she started running as fast as she could from one to another side of the stage, and she even forgot to start singing, so , the song started with " ....get close to a HHHHUman" ..... ;) then, she really enjoyed it, and gave herself to the public, running, screaming, jumping, everything! then, she went away, and when she was back, with her cute voice and icelandic accent, she introduced all the entourage, and performed "it's in our hands, that was really strong.still i was wondering what the Rome major was thinking....;) Thank you Bjork. Era stato suonato per la prima volta durante la precedente esibizione di giovedì scorso a Parma. Rispetto alla prima data italiana, quella romana presenta una scaletta più ricca. Sono stati aggiunti i seguenti brani: "Overture", "Aurora", "Harm of will" e "Venus as a boy". Sono invece stati sacrificati dalla scaletta i seguenti brani: "Coocon", "Unison" e "Joga". Altri pezzi bellissimi non sono stati eseguiti durante le 2 date italiane e sono i seguenti: "Gotham lullaby", "Undo", "Hidden place" e la meravigliosa "Play dead". Saluti Fabrizio che emozione!finalmente! in due ore un concetrato di energia e grandezza creativa.. ma come mai è durato così poco? grazie Bjork Stefano It starts with a oh so long musical box intro.. Few quiet shy notes flow through the Teatro dell’Opera, this rainy Roma night, all vibes really seem like a tiny ‘hello’ to us, to the Novecento Orchestra, maybe Björk herself, to anyone at all really. Then All Is Full Of Love, and it immediately turns to a fire, to a swan, to her graceful; she takes the stage in her face from the very start, and she won’t stop beating and teasing on it. All & everyone of us is left breathless, but with a smile, or is it a grin? But nothing is wasted, and no-devil is gonna steal anything from the hall. Yes, tonight it’s such a big satisfying grin Unravel is a beautiful song, and it’s beautiful to understand and ‘hear’ how Björk embraces the song, how the song embraces us, at least me She is feeling so good, going on her knees to drink water and something else (she had 4 glasses, if I remember the right way), she says “Grazie”, which is ‘thank you’ in italian, many times She is really in the mood, that kind of mood, it’s a joy to see her shine so violently Generous Palmstorke is a beautiful song, and oh what a moment, Zeena is great on this: the sound expands its tentacles and immerges the atmosphere in bloom, like in a lake with red, black, white grey flowers from the water, all is diamonds and sighs, cold landscapes and fever, such a song. Many Vespertine songs are played on the first set, which makes it very different from the second... Which starts with an Icelandic, ENCHANTING, You’ve Been Flirting Again, to fade into the most beautiful point of tonight (yeah, I’m still on this night, few minutes back): Possibly Maybe Nothing to say on this one, how would you comment on beloved electric shocks? Hyperballad captures the power of sound, and everyone once again, she exhales her love and passion and precious violence on this one, she’stotallycrazyItotallylove Army Of Me has industrial extreme beats which cover the song even with stronger meanings It blows out the stage and all around. For me it has been a very great emotion and I promise that if Bjork will come again in Rome ( I hope so ) will be even I in Opera to listen her music.
