| I'm from the Italy for the Sugarcubes! I'm not able to describe the emotion that I experienced. thanks for this concert! /tsingtao - 4066 |
| I first fell in love with Bjorks music when strangely enough somebody sampled Big Time Sensuality for a Graphics Music & Art demo on the Amiga Computer ( sounds nerdy i know, but who cares :) ). After i was exposed to that i needed to find out who this singer was, so lo & behold it was Bjork. Then i found out she was going to play live in Melbourne Australia ( my home town ) in about 1994, so in hearing of this i attempted to purchase a ticket, only to find that they had "completely" sold out in record time. So i missed out on seeing her live back then. The 2nd time around i went to Philadelphia in America back in 2003 for romantic reasons.. lol, and spent 6 weeks living with my then girlfriend. 2 weeks after returning back from Philly, my now ex informed that she was going to see Bjork live somewhere near there, and i could not believe it!!!. I had missed her TWICE!!, and its not exactly like i can afford to jump on a plane go see her where she is playing next in Europe. lol. So this is not a review, but perhaps a plea for Bjork to come back and play in Melbourne just one more time, because if there is one dream ive had in life, that is to see Bjork live. She is definately the most creative and inspirational artist of our time, and i thank her for the music she has given us & continues too. Thankyou. /blade002 - 2563 |
| Hi, I like Bjork music very much it is unique and very special performer, I think Bjork one day will become classics. I have never seen her live performance, and I am wondering when she will come to one of the Baltic states. For example in Lithuania (I am Lithuanian). You know Iceland was the first country which recognized Lithuania as independence country.Thank you for that:) I think Bjork should come to Lithuania there is what to see.Know I`m just collecting every interview and concert. The time is running and there is no hope to see live performance in Lithuania . I know that I am one fan of a million, but I am so happy that I know that exists such kind of person and performer like Bjork , which created Utopian music. Thank You very much for Your music and good luck in creating new Utopias. yours respectfully mantas /maantas - 2552 |
| Semplicemente meraviglioso! Bjork è stata superba e non si è atteggiata da diva quale è. Amanda sonliang@hotmail.com /tsingtao - 2550 |
| This was my third time experiencing Björk in concert, this time with the Sugarcubes, and my tenth visit to Iceland! I've been a big fan of Björk since the 1990s when I saw a profile of her on Swedish TV, and her music and style strongly appealed to me. However, I didn't get around to attending a concert by her until December 19, 2001 in Laugardalshöll in Reykjavík, Iceland, which was simply fantastic! That was also my first trip to Iceland ever, when I discovered Iceland, and I've been back many times since then and traveled around and visited many great and interesting places in that beautiful country of Björk's, which I can highly recommend to anyone! I also experienced Björk in concert at the Arvika Festival in Sweden on the evening of July 10, 2003. She was definitely the main attraction of the entire festival back then, which was sold out because of her. And now, once again, nearly five years since I first experienced her, I was back again in Laugardalshöll in Reykjavík, Iceland, way up front close to the stage. That was truly a major event, with Björk and the Sugarcubes reunited for the occasion! I only hope that the concert gets released on DVD and CD, although I do have some footage of my own to remember the event by. I'll be back in Iceland again in time to celebrate New Year's, which I'm greatly looking forward to, and will spend a week in Iceland then. Thank You, Björk, and thank you, Sugarcubes, for a most wonderful and memorable event! /sundarotto - 2543 |

Finally having some moments after my screen, trying to recap the moment for those that couldn't attend. The concert started the days before with a gathering next door the old Cubes rehearsing shack. Over a wonderful fish soup, memories were brought back, and the short get-together was closed by a photoshoot outside between the baracks. The town was filled with posters announcing the gig, which were the day after of course covered by other announcements. Luckily, for those fans wanting to cherish the promo of this historic event, the Badtaste shop provided comfort. The concert itself had Múm and Rass as openers, I will have no comment on both performances ;-) The Cubes appeared to be just a tiny bit older, yet after a couple of songs, the crazy feelings all came back. Except for Einar. He already started five seconds in the song with performing just like 15 years ago :-D The whole concert was recorded, audio on the mixing panel, and video by six cameras, of which two were mobile. So depending on the critics by the band itself, a DVD or CD definitely is a possibility. Surprisingly, the venue didn't seem to be sold out, especially the seats were rather empty. As the concert was in Iceland, most of the songs were brought in Icelandic, which didn't stop the crowd from cheering along in whatever language. While most attendants were Icelandic, a considerable number of them were indeed foreign, some even came from as far as Brazil for the event. After a wonderful 1h10m, the show was closed off by Luftgitar, after which the crowd happily poured out of the venue into the cold winter night. As usual, the Icy press the day after wasn't very that elaborate on the concert, and the pictures were minimal. But it is the memory that will last. Most definitely an evening to remember. Greetz! | The musical and vocal performances were of remarkably high quality, especially given the long layoff. They produced a richer, fuller, crunchier sound than I expected, each instrument and voice was mixed at just the right level, even the chimes in "Birthday" sounded like they were right next to me. The sound output was outstanding up in the seating area where I was, despite the fact that the building was a multi-purpose "field house" style facility. Given the energy of the performance, and what I think was the sense among the most of the audience that we were witnessing something special, and in a sense historic, this was the best concert I have ever seen. The whole trip was an unforgettable experience and I am incredibly thankful that I was able to attend. /drow0235 - 2540 |

| The show was the result of years of wishful thinking. They were everything I had ever dreamed about + so much more. To see all of them together on stage in front of me was chilling...everything about the performance was unforgetable...and worth traveling across the globe to see them for the first and last time live. ~Kelly from California~ /kellylynn_1981 - 2538 |

So! The anticipated gig finally happened, after only fourteen years of waiting! Well to be fair, most of us didn't wait that long, since we didn't even know it was going to happen until a few weeks ago, but still. The waiting done in those few weeks was plenty enough! So how was the gig? Well first of all, we were treated to musical hors d'oeuvres by DJ@mundo and KGB, Múm and Rass, but to focus on the birthday-boys and -girls; on this night of nights, it was like they never had left the stage to go separate ways - a blast from the past indeed. The music was tighter than Björk's silver tights, and Einar both hollared, whispered and did his much-loved/much-hated thing with much passion. That's when he wasn't blasting the trumpet or entertaining the crowd in both English and Icelandic inbetween the songs - the latter having the native crowd roaring with laughter. An Icelandic fella leaned over and gently squalled in my ear that it was "an inside joke". Thanks for the helping hand there, mate! The songs were also performed bilingually - some in whole and some in parts, some switching mid-song with the crowd still chanting along (oh my Cod I'm such a poet). There was in fact a chorus as angelic as ever that filled any gap that the band would leave them. Very surreal! The highlight was of course 'Birthday' - a moment causing more than a few in the crowd to get the sniffles. Though, we are not ruling out some sniffling being due to the cirka -13°c weather that had suddenly overcome Reykjavík, of course - even the natives were complaining! Myself, I had to buy my third pair of mittens and wear them all at once to keep the cold out! It was clear and sunny enough, the real snowstorm arrived not until the next day. But I digress! The show was filmed and projected live on two giant screens on each side of the stage, which was massively appreciated by those who hadn't arrived early and cemented themselves at the very front of the stage, not budging an inch at any price during all performances. Makes one wonder about how that added up with the plentiful amount of beverages that was served, judging from the leftover containers visible when the people cleared out after the gig! Not a subject that one wants to let one's mind stray into for too long, though. Moving along! Not only did we get show footage, mixed in with screens showing phrases from the songs and more deeper spiritual inquiries such as "can someone find Einar's screw?", but while the crowd roared for encores and the band stormed off the stage, the cameras followed them and we got a glimpse of what the heck artists DO when they go offstage. Very peculiar things, apparently. Arriving back on stage, they performed three more songs - finishing it all with a massive, air-twangin' 'Luftgítar' featuring mister Johnny Triumph himself on vocals and airguitar, with Einar, Magga and Björk belting out the chorus just as back in the days. And not only that, they were accompanied by Einar's son Hrafnkell and þór's son Örnólfur on realguitars. Now that's something you wouldn't see back in the days! Needless to say (but I'll say it anyway); it was one hell of a night, and it continued on post-gig in the VIP room on the top floor of the 'Höll, where several DJs (Kiki-ow and Curver among others) and the bands Helmus und Dalli & Sometime entertained the ones that had been equipped with the neon-green armbands, and those who had the skill to have manage to sneak in without. The party later migrated much like a massive, wobbly puffin to downtown club Rex. You can check out a few reviews here; The Guardian, NME, Pitchfork, RedPenguin, IcelandReview, but don't forget to send in your OWN reviews etc to the GigOgraphy - share your experiences! We have already put our own gig photos there and some press pictures to start it off with. For those with a thirst for more media, there are a ton of videos on YouTube, as every other fan seemed to have been equipped with a digital camera. One would say that glowing LCD's are the new lighters! Thus, I hold my LCD high and say; Thank you! You were The Sugarcubes... again! /MWC - 2536 |
