Free translation of the review on the 'Humo'-website: ‘We are the earth intruders’ was a logical opener for Björk’s show, a song that, as expected, was a visual spectacle on its own: flags and banners, hi-tech-screens with electromagnetic bits, a brass-ensemble, all in the most intensive colours. Björk, hidden by an animalmask, appeared dancing around on the stage, looking like a nymph from outer space. In the background the brass-players uneasily heaved around like dolls. Although it all looked alien, we can’t talk about an invasion: the vibes didn’t get any further than the stage itself. It wasn’t until Army Of Me that some kind of intergalactic offensive was set in and the space invader-cannon came out of the closet. A couple of songs later a modest version of Vökuró followed. We had to wait a little bit for the encores. After a sleep-inducing Oceania, a combative Declare Independence followed and Muse-fans started advancing. - Highlight: the juggling brass-outro of Bachelorette, followed by an unleashed version of Army of Me. - Quote: ‘Thank you’, or should we say ‘Merci’.' /roelipilami - 2943
Free translation of the review 'Best Theatre at Werchter' in the newspaper 'De Standaard': 1. BJÖRK 'Björk and her stage looked like a movie of Akira Kurosawa. The combination of brass-players and electronics had never been done before. Hovever faltering beats and many new songs kept the audience on a distance, but there was plenty to see.' (Rufus Wainwright comes in second place) /roelipilami - 2942
Great gig! Ok, being sandwiched between Marilyn Manson and Muse isn't ideal (it's called ROCK Werchter for a good reason!!) But Björk and the band were very good. Her voice was strong and clear, the electronic wizards Damian and Mark were amazing. I really liked the way that the whole set was as one, with the beats and the horns. I knew that it was going to be a though crowd, so I opted for a place a bit further from the stage (but still close enough to stage) so that I had space to move and dance. Even then, we had trouble to get out after the show. That's always the trouble with a festival like this, die-hard fans of the next band stand in the front early, ruining it for the other fans. I hope Björk and the band saw through all that, because there were still a lot of people who she really did amaze. I really loved the new I miss you and Hyper-ballad versions, they were so energised. DI was brilliant, really techno. Where I was standing, there were a lot of people who knew only some of the songs, but they seemed to like her. Vokuro was daring indeed, but very lovely. The only criticism I have was the sound in the beginning of the show. The bass was way too loud, even with earplugs, it was ruining the mix. It made you feel very uncomfortable. A shame really, because the set up with all the musicians worked really well at a big show like this. Overall, I thought it was a well thought out set list, for people who know the hit songs, who know some albums and who know all her songs. It really showed what she is doing right now, that she wants stuff to move and shine. The audience reacted a bit late, but the last songs did make them move. I really enjoyed myself, and am looking forward to Amsterdam! (but please turn down the bass a bit!) /eisbaer - 2941
Free translation of the review on the 'Proximus Go for Music'-website: 'When you're a festivalgoer you don’t expect a repetition of earlier Werchter-passages from one of the most colourful popstars on earth and surrounding planets. But this performance surpassed our wildest expectations. A Björk-gig anno 2007 is a ferocious trip with musical and visual surprises, an emotional rollercoaster that takes you from moving moments to ecstasy and back. The setlist opened with the new Volta-single Earth Intruders, and the female brass-section that follows Björk on this tour clearly left its mark on the concert from the beginning onwards. The warm brass-sounds and their chanting choruses turned out to become a beautiful combo with the electronic sounds of Mark Bell. On the screens next to the stage we saw the dance-pioneer juggle with sounds on futuristic touchscreens. Björk excelled in being her own little strange person. Few other singers manage to sound vulnerable in a song like All Is Full Of Love and at the same time dare to sing out loud during Hyperballad. The absolute climax followed, as one expects, at the end of the show. With Declare Independence Björk furiously called up the idea of living life your own way. ‘Raise your flags!’, she screamed. An appeal that got welcomed with open arms by the enthusiastic audience. A tremendous concert.' http://194.7.45.68/nl/report.php?id=172536 nice :) I agree! /roelipilami - 2940
Free translation of the review in the newspaper 'De Standaard': 'Sometimes our little Icelandic elf is pushing the limits. She calls upon impossible rhythm-patterns or her singing becomes howling. In Werchter we encountered that a lot: too many new songs depending on deranged beats and offering little harmonious pleasure. Some beautiful atmospheres were created with a choir of 10 brass-players, but too often we felt like being part of an experiment instead of a party. Nevertheless: the stage was decorated with fanciful flags, All Is Full of Love was right on the spot and a new song like Wanderlust stayed within agreeable limits. Björk will always be a great artist, but in Werchter she didn’t capture the audience.' :( http://dsolive.blogspot.com/2007/06/bjork.html /roelipilami - 2939
Free translation of the review in the newspaper 'De Morgen': 'Of all geniuses the ones who are happily mad are the most pleasant. A dubious hypothesis, but the Icelandic Björk, 41 already, however illustrates it in a way nobody else does. In the past the eccentric superstar toured around with an orchestra of 70 musicians, appeared dressed as a swan – accompanied by an egg – on the red carpet of Cannes and made a record featuring the sound of mating whales. In Werchter she looked like a space-alien, took a female brass-section along with her and the stage was transformed into her kingdom with bordering flags. Song number one, Earth Intruders, proved that something unusual was about to happen. The singer, with her head in the clouds of planet Björk, had hidden herself behind a mask, she let acoustic trumpets play with electronic beats, and sang with her heartrendering voice through it all. It didn’t become an easy fast-food-greatest hits-show. Instead of that she took you along a listening-adventure in which she skipped from one extreme to another. Diehard techno burst into silent harpmusic, house reached out to chanson, and during the Icelandic Vökuró folk merged with jazz. The concert developed into an ode to liberty of expression, one you watched with your mouth opened. There was so much to hear and see that afterwards you could have written a book about it without repeating yourself.' (this concert was given 5 stars) /roelipilami - 2936
I'm glad I sold my ticket for rock werchter! With such an audience. I'm looking forward to Amsterdam! See you there :) /sofievanverdegem - 2935
Totally agree with everything that has been said here. Bjork was superb with her voice & energy; however the crowd was rather disappointing when the majority of them were waiting for Muse to come on. Everyone was so quiet even after the first song Earth Intruder. Felt like I was the only person cheering up welcoming her on stage. Definitely prefer seeing her at her own indoor gig, much more intimate and you can really enjoy songs like All is full of love, Unison or Pleasure is all mine, which I don't think the crowd appreciated that much at the festival, when most of them were more into her old 'more-famous' songs like Army of Me, probably because thats the only song they knew of her. /jeffreymcqueen - 2934
It was a wonderfull performance and Björk was son beautifull and her voice perfect but i agree with people who said that the crowd wasn't enough enthousiast...with all Muse's fan bored and screaming Muse!!! But the last song's she sang were more "electro dancable" and more people liked it. The concert was great but i prefered the atmosphere of the 2003 performance and i'm looking forward a more intimist concert surrounded by bjork fan's to. /valky - 2933
I have to agree, the crowd was terrible. We tried to get in front before My Chemical Romance and during Marilyn Manson we got a little closer to the stage. After Manson we didn't get closer, because Muse fans got in front. During Björk's performance some of them were shouting "Muse, Muse" and others were looking around like they seemed bored. They didn't even have the decency to be quiet and trying to enjoy the performance. Luckely it didn't stop me from singing along, dancing and even jumping around. Björk's voice sounded wonderful and her performace was full of energy. I'm really looking forward to the Amsterdam concert, then surrounded by Björk fans! /profiler - 2932
the atmosphere was bad, people waiting for Muse were rude, as soon as Björk came on they started shouting "Muse Muse Muse!" making fun of the way Björk looked, so i moved places and was happy to discover there were at least a few fans of Björk...even singing along a lot, she did a great great job, her voice was superb, not a single time she failed to impress, such power and perfection! dancing and giving herself, wonderful to see how she can go up in her own songs, she seemed rather happy so to Dreamtrees: didn't really notice she looked unhappy, i saw her smiling a lot, perhaps she was just concentrating and maybe failed to look happy ... it was the 4th time that i saw her perform and each time she just is a walking miracle in my eyes, in her own special way a great entertainer and performer overtalented, the setlist, very good, but i won't be going to a festival again i think, getting too old for it even though i'm only in my 20's..prefer an indoors gig and only have the band/artist playing knowing the people there are into the band/artist or at least like them. but that's the risk you sometimes have to take when going to a festival: hoping the people around you are into the same band/artist you want to see... anyway, thanks to Björk for a marvelous performance! /mcmad - 2931
During the marilyn manson show, the last two songs the big music box/blasters on the side of the stage suddenly stopped producing sound!!!! so we just heared the music from the inner stage. I think even during the first few songs and now and then during björk her amazing show the boxes also didn't produce sound. It was really amazing, but as you said people were waiting for Muse. Which is a same for those who came especially for björk (like me!!!) I kickes ass and danced the hell out of my body. All is full of Love blew me away, as did: army of me, vökuró, wanderlust, hyperballad, declare independance, bacherlorette. Loved it!!! /hallokloot - 2930
technically a very good performance, and her voice was really clear. a full moon in the dark and airplanes coming over once in a while, it looked like a good setting. there is however a strange aftertaste, mixed feelings. the crowd wasn't exactly enthousiast (maybe next time in the smaller marquee?), although it seemed like there were enough dancable songs and variations. squeezed in between marilyn manson and muse, she didn't get much chances from the rock/metal/whatever audience. also, i thought bjork wasn't looking very happy. face paint wasn't a succes, the mask definitely was. /dreamtrees - 2929
She played (not in this order, but by album): Army Of Me Hyper-Ballad (/Freak) I Miss You Hunter Bachelorette Immature All Is Full Of Love Unison Pleasure Is All Mine Vökuró Oceania Earth Intruders Wanderlust Innocence Declare Independence Her voice was perfect (right from the beginning, too), lovely additions to some songs (Bachelorette, Army Of Me), very daring to play Vökuró and Immature on a festival gig. She danced quite a bit and the rendition of Declare Independence was pure bliss, so was I Miss You and Immature (almost cried during that one). Once Freak kicked in, the audience went wild. Otherwise, the crowd was rather calm (especially in comparison to the 2003 performance). Technically, musically and emotionally a most astounding, astonishing and overwhelming experience. Can't wait to see her in Amsterdam... /bazz - 2927
