Which point should I start with ?

Perhaps on this eleventh of June 2008. Sometime between 10h00 and 10h02 a.m. (please forgive me for this lack of accuracy). I’m sitting out on the edge of a pavement, a laptop stands besides me. I have still to make some extra optical measurements, enter a few more data, carry out a little further calculations, then I can refresh this page of fnac.com where I’m supposed to get one ticket for the gig.
OK! There we are. Now the tickets are on sale.

It’s ridiculous; I could’ve waited till this evening, but that statement on bjork.fr made me unsure about being able to obtain a proper seat. I don’t know the Olympia. Never been there. Supposed to be a small venue. “Watch out!”, according to the statement. I’m a bit nervous. But I’m too satisfied with the fact that she’ll perform in a decent venue.
And as my size and stature don’t allow me to reach and stand in front of the scene (and behind, I can see nothing), I must get one of these first category tickets!

And in this morning of June, sometime between 10h00 and 10h02, I can only see second and third category tickets on sale, none of those fucking first category ones. I must have made a mistake! The tickets are certainly on sale on another page! Just a few seconds, a few extended seconds do I need to understand they’re already sold out. OK, just try and get a ticket in the second or third category! And just a few more seconds to understand it’s too late. Each time I click on/crush the appropriate button, each time does a message pop up in red letters, declaring my “requirement cannot be fulfilled!”

Now I’m cursing at Björk. Damn! This wouldn’t have happened if she hadn’t agreed to play this leading role on this fucking film ...
Your requirement cannot be fulfilled!
… I’m convinced her status would be totally different by now...
Your requirement cannot be fulfilled!
…Fuck this girl!...
Your requirement cannot be fulfilled!
10h07 a.m., it’s too late. I’m giving up.

Wednesday, 25th June, 19h50

- Excuse me, … the only way for us to earn a little money is through tips you know…
- Oh, sorry, of course, … I didn’t know …
I thrust my hand into my small rucksack, wrench my wallet out, pull a 5-Euro banknote off and stretch my arm out to her.
- Hum … do you want your change?
- No, no, …
- Thanks

The attractive figure is already vanishing away into the dim lighted, fleecy, fluffy atmosphere of the mezzanine.
What does she do? She must be a student. She must have found it a bit weird that a man in his late forties just happens to be here. Swift swivelling glance around and below. I’m certainly the oldest one! By far. Ah, I don’t care. I’m too excited. I hadn’t realised until that girl led me to my seat. I’ve never been so well located to attend a concert. Of course the ticket was a little hard to get and cost me more than what would normally be sensible to spend for on that kind of event. But now all this is forgotten.

The Olympia! Pretty nice place to receive Björk and her mates. Plus a couple of thousands of attendants, for the most part standing at the ground level, in front of the scene.
Beneath and on my right the droning crowd is slowly stretching, gradually filling up the room, electric, tense with excitement. Not the kind of ambience I’m inclined to be fond of though.
How can Björk and her music, however interesting it may be, her diffident manner and uncommunicative way bring about such a restless and eager feverishness? Is this peculiar to her French public? Or perhaps I’m just getting too old.
After 50 minutes ten cute and fluorescent girls are treading the stage bearing brass instruments.

Thursday, 26th June. 4 a.m.

I’m awake. My eyes are staring into the night. Faint shimmering lights and smooth shadows slide, twirling across the window. The mechanicals are whirring, the train is slowly rushing through the darkness.
Back towards Toulouse.
But my numbed mind is still in Paris. Still thrilled by the energy poured out of every song, despite some voice problems whose grounds, in my opinion, are perhaps more related to psychological pressure than physical weariness. Still dazzled by Björk’s and all the girls’ colourful dresses by Bernhard Willhelm. Still delighted by the all-girl brass band. Still impressed by the high effectiveness of the whole set of musicians. Still surprised by the perfect balance kept between the different albums. Still bewitched by the wondrous songs from Medulla.

Nearly 24 hours I’m awake. Nearly 1500 km . I’m tired. Although euphoria prevails, a strange mix of feelings is stirring my weakened thoughts. If only I had been able, at that time, to see one of her concerts of the Vespertine tour. I’m afraid she won’t make this kind of performance again in the future. Regret.
Or one of her gigs in 1993/1994. Her change of status meanwhile tends to disturb me. Nostalgia.
Of course she would not agree.
Or perhaps I should see her outside France. Maybe I’m too tired.

I’m hardly aware of whispers across the wagon. Bordeaux already. I have to change trains.
