| 30/05/03 Había oído hablar muy bien de Björk pero nunca había tenido interés en ella puesto que yo pensaba que su música no me gustaría en absoluto. Fui invitado al concierto, aunque suene chistoso y extraño, por la vecina de arriba (a la que se lo agradezco enormemente al igual que a su sobrina, hermana y amiga; me hicieron pasar una de las noches más fantasticas de mi vida. GRACIAS). Aunque llegamos bastante tarde al recinto (22:15; el concierto empezaba a las 22:30) no estabamos excesivamente lejos. Yo pude ver el concierto con total claridad, aunque claro, mido casi 2 metros por lo que nadie me tapaba. Los siete primeros sonidos de Pagan Poetry quedaron grabados en mi mente desde la primera vez que los escuché. Me sorprendió la naturalidad con la que Björk actúa sobre el escenario. Es algo que no es corriente, ya que ahora todo se coreografía al milímetro. Yo estaba como en una nube, hasta que llegó Jóga, con la que me sumergí de pleno en el infierno más cálido, luminoso y sincronizado con la música visto hasta el momento. A partir de ahí todo fue sobre ruedas. ¿El mejor momento? Bachelorette. Es mi canción favorita. No puedo recordar muy nítidamente, puesto que hace casi un mes. Lo que si recordaré siempre es esa noche, esa música, esa Björk que me hizo tan felíz por una hora y media. | Björk ilumina Valencia La cantante islandesa inicia su gira española con un brillante concierto al aire libre en el lago de la Ciudad de las Artes ANGEL SALGUERO La cantante islandesa Björk comenzó el pasado viernes por la noche su gira española con un concierto gratuito al aire libre en la Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias de Valencia al que acudieron más de siete mil personas, incluido dentro de los actos del segundo Festival Eclèctic. Se trataba del tercer recital que ofrece la artista en 2003, después de sus dos actuaciones en Londres siete días atrás. A espaldas del Museo Príncipe Felipe, el escenario se levantaba sobre uno de los lagos abiertos en el antiguo cauce del Turia, suspendido sobre el agua y orientado hacia el Umbráculo. Una crisálida de color negro, cuya forma de ojo recordaba la estructura de L’Hemisfèric, albergaba un decorado austero: al fondo, un sencillo telón oscuro escondía una pantalla de vídeo, utilizada para proyectar imágenes durante algunos temas. Frente a él, ocho músicos de cuerda ocupaban la parte central de la escena, flanqueados por una arpista y los samplers y teclados y cajas de ritmos empleados por el dúo Matmos, que aportaban las bases electrónicas. En primer término, un solitario micrófono. El juego de luces, reflejado también en la superficie del lago, variaba los colores del escenario, del negro al azul, del rojo al violeta, del amarillo a un violento verde. Selma, el personaje que interpretaba Björk en la película Bailar en la oscuridad, vivía la música como una necesidad vital, tan importante como el aire que respiraba. La verdadera Björk se alimenta también de música. Atraviesa su cuerpo como una descarga eléctrica y la empuja a una danza frenética, tirando de sus hilos como de una marioneta a punto de quebrarse. Late al mismo ritmo que su corazón y es una fuerza que le permite casi caminar sobre el aire. Se trata de una artista total. Su voz, impregnada de infinitas tonalidades, limpia y brillante, capaz de levantarse con autoridad o de hundirse en un susurro apenas audible, participa en el conjunto como un instrumento más y se funde de forma natural con el resto de los sonidos. No se limita a acompañarlos, es una más entre ellos. Pero hace algo más que cantar: Interpreta sus temas en el sentido más amplio, como una actriz, y transmite al público su drama, su intensidad, su emoción. Ella utiliza además todo su cuerpo. El viernes por la noche se mostró ante el público de Valencia como uno de los duendes del Sueño de una noche de verano. Vestida con un ancho mono de color negro, cuyas mangas colgaban de sus brazos como pesadas alas, con el pelo suelto, el flequillo travieso sobre la frente y los hombros adornados con plumas, bailó, se estremeció, extendió sus brazos hacia el cielo nocturno y se recogió con humildad. Björk ha trascendido cualquier influencia. Su única referencia es ella misma y sus canciones son mensajes escritos desde un mundo cuyas claves sólo ella comprende. Las imágenes proyectadas durante Unravel la mostraban como una bailarina de cuya cabeza nacía una madeja de finos hilos que se desenredaban lentamente y de los que pendía una extraña forma. Bienvenidos al otro lado del espejo. El primer tema de la noche fue una hermosa versión de Pagan Poetry, una de las canciones de Vespertine (2001), su último disco de material original. Sin embargo, el repertorio se basó principalmente en Homogenic, el tercer trabajo en solitario de la cantante islandesa, publicado en 1997 y con el que abrió una etapa de sonidos más arriesgados y abstractos. Así, fueron cayendo Hunter, Five Years, All Is Full Of Love o la más conocida Joga. Durante esta última canción, el escenario se iluminó con el resplandor de las llamaradas que surgían de columnas situadas ante los espectadores y detrás de los músicos, algo que se repetiría en distintos momentos del concierto. Y para sorpresa del público, varias ráfagas de fuegos artificiales se dispararon hacia el cielo en perfecta sincronía con la música. La canción inédita Desired Constellations fue una extensión lógica del intimismo minimalista iniciado en Vespertine, una balada desnuda y llena de dudas, en la que Björk se pregunta una y otra vez: How Am I Going To Make It Right? (¿Cómo puedo hacerlo bien?). Y hubo también tiempo para temas más oscuros, como Nature Is Ancient —durante la que se mostraron turbadoras imágenes de un feto cuyos labios parecían acompañar la canción— o Generous Palmstroke. Hyperballad, una de las mejores composiciones de Post (1995), arrancó los mayores aplausos entre el público, que la reconoció a los pocos segundos. A medida que avanzaba el concierto, la música se fue adentrando en territorios cada vez más electrónicos que desembocaron en la sinfonía de ruido de Where Is The Line, otra de las canciones que estrenó Björk. El título, repetido como un mantra, multiplicado y amplificado a través de los samplers, convertía el tema en un caos preciso y ordenado, una galería de espejos deformantes. Después, Pluto, un crescendo de intensidad y energía desatadas que iluminó Valencia con un sol de medianoche, alimentado por la música, las ráfagas de luz, las llamas y los fuegos artificiales. Tras una breve pausa, Björk regaló a los asistentes dos canciones más: la poderosa Bachelorette y Human Behaviour, el único tema de Debut, su primer disco, incluido en el repertorio. El sonido y la acústica fueron perfectos, algo difícil de lograr en conciertos de esta magnitud. Los instrumentos de cuerda se dejaron escuchar en todos sus matices a pesar de su lucha contra los muros electrónicos levantados por Matmos y la voz de Björk llegó sin distorsiones. Al final, el público coreó su nombre y ella, sin duda emocionada, respondió con timidez ‘gracias’ y a su vez coreó ‘¡España! ¡España!’. | well it was so incredible... first of all we did a monster queue sleeping the pavement (me without bag or anything) and spending all the night in the street (I confess I wasn't sure it was worth it)... then along the day we met very nice people (from the bjorkspain.com forum) and other nice people. as the day was running we got more and more excited, I was lucky enough to be able to abandon the queue (to shape myself a bit, clean up, shave and hairdress) and return to it a couple of hours later! by that moment I had lost the orchestra rehearsals but I came just in time to see Björk testing the soundboard and had her VERY CLOSE! my photos didn't turn up to be a wonder but it was weird and special to have her so close, and so natural! I was just next to the van when she came out of the soundcheck and I asked, "Björk would you sign my cd's!!!???" but she didn't - she even didn't look at the crowd!! :o/ THE CONCERT ITSELF!! after a well spent couple of hours in a much more relaxed mood (just when we got the area id's) the show opened with Soft Pink Truth playing some dense dance music, and spiced with porno movie preliminars that amused the crowd a lot. the SPT show was perfect, because it was fun, danceable, interesting and short! (we were lucky enough he kept in mind WHO we wanted to see!) the Drew Daniel appearance lasted for half an hour or so, so we enjoyed the songs and didn't get tired of them. the Björk part started off with Pagan Poetry in this brand new and flamant string version, far better than the choir one (it's my impression). then they performed 5 Years (this was the first time I heard it live and it's so wonderful) and Hunter (which for myself I think it gives nothing special to the show but was plain OK). then Desired Constellation and we all were at her feet... Unravel showed a great background video which I and everyone beside me loved a lot (the video shows a beautiful Her with a hole that represents her heart unravelling in white yarn!!) and then there were great renditions of Jóga (with new beats and fire on stage that made the crowd went crazy) and All Is Full Of Love. then came Nature Is Ancient, beautiful bside-inflated-to-centerpart track! Heirloom was a great surprise for me (being my favorite part of Vespertine) and I think that Björk recreated properly the dreamy atmosphere of the song (also great new arrangements for it). then came the Soft Pink Truth version of IIOH - that means: be crazy and dance like crazy and do the robot and jump and do silly movements with total freedom! I agree, that version works very fine when played live. it was a great performance. Matmos took the same beats for the uptempo parts in Hyperballad (or so I think) creating a nice link to it, plus the use of and fireworks was cool! (I must add that all the fireworks were very well synchronized to the parts they were supposed to fit, and overall was a great effect). Generous Palmstroke was a genuine intimate moment (intimacy with 30000 people) and as always, a great moment of listening pleasure. then came the darkest track I've heard of Björk - that Nameless jam with Leila, very dark, very graphical... by the way, does it have any title? An Echo, A Stain/Crave is another one of these OK songs, I think it's not the best option for a summer festival but it was a good moment (as any Björk track will provide ;). then the true MADNESS begins as Where Is The Line begins to sound, with that mechanical twisted sound, and then these beats shot! Where Is The Line was my favorite part of the show as it segued with Pluto in a perfect way, just when we were crazed about the wild sounds of Line, with the adrenaline exploding in the air, then CRASH! a truly favorite of us! I've got no words for what was felt in those minutes, people like crazy roaring and jumping... whoa... it was the first time I heard Pluto live and I swear there's nothing to compare with! the encores were a little narrow (Bachelorette was our dreamed song, Human Behaviour seemed just a must) and Björk did not introduce the band. but Björk seemed very comfortable as she said "gracias" in many fun ways (including those infamous Valencia and España shouts that made us crazy). being this the second time I saw Björk live (first was in Barcelona during the Vespertine theater tour) I must admit that was incredible and felt so great I've got no words for it!!! the setlist shown above is not 100% correct as the songs were played in this order: 01 Pagan poetry 02 5 Years 03 Hunter 04 Desired constellation 05 Unravel 06 Jóga 07 All is full of love 08 Nature is ancient 09 Heirloom 10 It's in our hands 11 Hyperballad 12 Generous palmstroke 13 Nameless 14 An echo, a stain / Crave 15 Where is the line 16 Pluto 17 Bachelorette 18 Human behaviour /srpablo - 240 |
| I was in that concert and it was wonderful. I'm looking for it in the internet but I can't find it. Does anybody know where can I have it? Because I need it. This Bachelorette was the most beautiful of all the concert. I'm womdering if Björk is going to edit the concert, beacuse it was magic, wonderful and beautiful. I'm from Valencia, and i could'n believe that she was going to performance here, because nobody interesting comes to Valencia. Never. I love Björk since 6 years, and the concert was the most incredible,beautiful and magic experience I've ever had. | Surgiste casi de entre tu propio medio, la única diferencia era el estado de éste. Era líquido y no tenía las antojadizas formas que adquiere en tu tierra natal. Vestías de negro sepulcral y en tu espalda se podían apreciar dos alitas cual ángel. Se podría decir que todo era diferente porque tampoco tus descalzos pies estaban en contacto con el escenario, decidiste realzar tu belleza con unos sandalias negras a juego con tu vestido. No es que la espera mereciese la pena, sino que si hubiese sido aún más larga, imagino que habría deseado más a cada minuto que pasaba verte aparecer por el escenario. Es la segunda vez que te veo en directo y ambas han sido espectaculares para mi. Nos hiciste disfrutar durante una hora y media y no podías haber elegido un mejor sitio para dar rienda suelta a todo tu arte y tu música. Es bueno vivir momentos como estos porque haces feliz a mucha gente. Definiría el espectáculo como bello e impresionante. Muchas gracias Björk. It's the second time i've seen Björk live. The first time was last year in Cologne at the Opern Haus and as you can imagine it was simply great. Last week i was so lucky to see her again. The place she chose was incredible, just amazing. | I traveled 1000 km to watch Bjork for the first time. It was the moment I had been expecting for all my life, because I lost the 1996 concert in Lisbon. It was really a great show. A little short for someone who had waited a whole life and a whole day under a burning sun, but that’s ok. Of course we all missed some great hits, but it was worth it to ear some of the new stuff. The fireworks were really amazing, but…that’s Valencia! Fireworks are a constant in that city. The site was extremely well chosen, the stage was in fact a show for itself. I just loved it! | I went to Björk concert, it was really great. I wasn't in a good place, but luckly in front of me only were shrter people in front of me. I was a little far, but i enjoied just as i were in the front row. I must say i felt the show was a litlle short to me, 1h30'. Half an hour more wuold have been really perfect. I missed Cocoon, It's oh so quiet, and many more.... I felt touched specially with All is full of love, wow, great song. And the new themes are truly jewels, i can't wait to listen to ... And as Sebastien said she was really excited with these songs and their partners... Matmos, Zeena and the String Octet... A question: who's the guy who plays synth/keyboards? | Was in first raw last night in Valencia...I want more! I´ll have to wait until tomorrow (Madrid). Everything was just Great...the admosfere was wonderfull!!! You cud see Bjork enjoying herself as much as the public did! I cuden´t descrive with words the sound...the music...the interpretation...the Joy/public. This is my 5th concert! Done 95, 97,01...This was The best concert i´ve witness... I woud like to publish the pic i took of the concert but Outlook doesn´t suit me... Will try in few days... /hooter - 150 |

| El cisne islandés revoluciona Valencia Miles de personas aguardaron ayer todo el día en la Ciudad de las Ciencias para asistir al primer concierto de la gira de Björk por Europa MIKEL LABASTIDA\VALENCIA El majestuoso complejo ideado por Santiago Calatrava en la Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias ha servido de escenario para importantes figuras del mundo de la cultura como Gustav Holst, que vio plasmada allí su suite Los Planetas; La Fura dels Baus, que realizó su particular interpretación de los siete pecados capitales o Carles Santos, que reunió allí a 2.001 músicos. Anoche, la cantante islandesa Björk pasó a engrosar la lista de insignes invitados gracias al concierto con el que abrió su gira por Europa. La cantante escogió Valencia para presentar los grandes éxitos que se incluyen en Family Tree y en su último recopilatorio. Aunque durante el concierto sonaron algunos de sus temas nuevos, la cantante islandesa prefirió comenzar con clásicos como 5 ye ars, tema con el que la artista empezó a dar brincos. Como buen cisne, salió al escenario con unas plumas a su espalda y un extraño peto negro. El público valenciano cayó rendido con el sexto tema que sonó, Joga, canción durante la cual los asistentes fueron sorprendidos con ráfagas de fuego y fuegos artificiales. La expectación que había creado la visita de la cantante islandesa se materializó desde primeras horas de la mañana de ayer, en que los alrededores del escenario instalado en el lago frente al Museo Príncipe Felipe comenzaron a llenarse de gente. Al mediodía, cientos de jóvenes se habían instalado allí (provistos de comida y sombrillas) para guardar cola y ocupar un buen lugar en el momento en que se abriesen los accesos a las gradas y a las plata formas desde donde se podía seguir la actuación. Alrededor de las 18 horas, se calcula que ya aguardaban en la Ciudad de las Ciencias más de 10.000 personas (el aforo máximo era de 8.000). El número no dejó de crecer a medida que llegaban las 20.30 horas (momento en que se abrían las puertas para ocupar los 3.000 asientos instalados). 'Esto parece el FIB', decía uno de los jóvenes que había pasado todo el día esperando el gran momento para ver, gratis, a una de sus artistas favoritas. El ambiente, ciertamente, era muy similar al que se contempla cada año en agosto en el festival de Benicàssim. Miles de jóvenes agolpados para escuchar a un ídolo indiscutible del pop actual. Los que no pudieron ocupar un lugar privilegiado, que fueron muchos, tuvieron que conformarse con escuchar la voz del cisne desde los alrededores o seguir el concierto a través de las dos pantallas instaladas a ambos lados del lago. El escenario montado para la ocasión no era demasiado grande y tenía forma cóncava, por lo que, pese a las dimensiones de la Ciudad de las Artes, no era fácil ver a Björk desde todos los puntos del complejo. | Last night Bjork came to Valencia to start off the Eclectic festival 2003. I'm studying abroad in Madrid so I took a bus around 7am from there and got to Valencia around 11am. I figured since it was a free show, it'd be better to get there early to get in. The stage was set up directly above water and the first 700 persons to get there would have access to the small platform directly in front. The rest of the crowd would either stand up above in the bleechers or behind the platform further away. There was already a good amount of people there; I asked the people in the front of the line when they arrived and they said around 2am with sleeping bags and everything. Waited around in line, met some very cool people; The string quartet started rehearsal around 3:30pm and played for a good hour. Then Bjork came right next to where we were waiting in line to test the sound system. I was right next to the sound board so got to see her from pretty close for a good half hour. She was wearing a pink dress and had changed her haircut from the Apollo and Hammersmith gig. Short black hair but not tied or anything. Then she went back in the van and I actually was less then a meter from her! Then we waited around some more and got to see Bjork play on the other side of the water with her daughter for a while. Then, around 6:00pm a huge crowd of people arrived and started cutting in line, pushing, etc... so, until they finally opened the doors for the platform, that was a pretty awful time. Anyway, I finally got on the platform: it was divided into three parts to make sure people didn't push too much and we got bracelets for each section: I got the one for the front section and somehow was able to get in right in the front with no one in front of me!! I couldn't believe it! Soft Pink Truth opened at 9:30 with a good mix. Played for a good 40min, spoke some spanish and seemed to be very much into his act. They had that very weird video playing on the screen but people seemed to enjoy it quite a bit... 10:30pm comes around, the Icelandic string quartet, matmos and Zeena come on stage followed by you know who. Excellent sound system and being in the front makes all the difference. Bjork is wearing a dark dress (kind of looked like a graduation outfit!) and some tiny peacock looking wings on her back (you'll see the pictures). As you can imagine, I took 30 pics or more and got some very very good close ups. I'll make sure to send all those in sometime next week. Here's the setlist: 01. Pagan Poetry 02. 5 Years 03. The coolest thing was Bjork's expression when seeing them. She was looking up with a big smile on he face, almost as amazed as the crowd. She said "Gracias, gracias, gracias" a lot during the show and said "VA....LEN...CIA" too and the crowd went nuts. Cool moments of the show: her jumping around on 5 years; when she ended one of those new songs (i think nameless or crave) and went up to Matmos clapping and jumping up and down, obviously very happy with the performance; Zeena dancing on Human behaviour; and of course everything song played with so much energy and passion (most of you probably know what I'm talking about...) | It is my first Björk live experience... It´s like my first concert experience... I´m not able to remember anything else but Björk tonight on stage.
